What a beautiful summer day to take the Balboa ferry in Newport Beach! The ferry is a fun little scenic ride across the Newport Harbor between Balboa Island and Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. Even though I’m not a visitor to the area, as a resident of Newport Beach it’s still something that adds a little fun to the drive whenever I need to head over to the Fun Zone area!
Feel like experiencing it vicariously? I took a couple of videos the last few times I took a ride on it:
The Balboa ferry has been around since 1920–when the price to carry a car across the Newport Harbor was only 10 cents! Read up more on the history of the ferry: Life in Newport, part 3 | “Explore some of Newport Beach’s Unique and Thriving Neighborhoods: Balboa Island”, “Balboa in the Past”, An interesting feature article about the life of a present-day ferry captain was published in Coast Magazine here: Balboa Ferry Captain Ray DeCeco.

And if you are thinking of buying a home in the area, I have a great yacht-worthy property for sale on the Newport Harbor: 3336 Via Lido, Newport Beach. As a luxury property, the home has a gourmet kitchen, home theater, spacious master suite, rooftop deck with 360-degree views of the harbor and city lights, and best of all: a dock that can accommodate a yacht of about 110′ in length–one of the few in the area. Please call me (at 714-914-9060) or email me for more information or to see the listing! Property website: www.3336ViaLido.com. Virtual tour.
