China Cove slope project

A $476,000 slope restoration project above China Cove is complete, city officials said in a memo.

Construction began in October on the slope between Ocean Boulevard and the China Cove ramp, an area that had seen erosion since the early 2000s. City staff lined the hillside with tarps and sand bags, but storms in 2011 caused further erosion on the westerly slope.

The project included removal of loose material and existing vegetation such as invasive ice plants. Then crews nailed manmade material, which looks like natural rock, into the hillside. Eventually the material will be covered with plantings.
