China Cove Slope Repair Project to Begin this Fall

“A $500,000 project to repair a failing slope above China Cove will begin this fall, city staff told the Corona del Mar Residents Association board at a meeting this morning.

“There’s a lot of ice plant on the slope, and it’s pulled away at it for years,” said Dave Webb, Newport Beach Deputy Public Works director.

The slope below Ocean Boulevard has been kept in place with plastic tarps that look like trash bags, said Andy Tran, a city project engineer.

The project design should be complete this month, Tran said, and should go to the City Council for approval in September. Construction could begin in October, and weather permitting, be complete before the end of the year.

Sewer lines in the area, which are old and need repairs, will be improved as part of the project…”
