Coastline Car Classic To Feature B-25 Fly-By

“The Coastline Car Classic’s opening ceremony this year will include a fly-by by a World War II bomber, organizers said in an email announcement.

The show will open to the public at 10 a.m. Sunday Sept. 9, and the opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m.

“Named after the controversial champion of U.S. Airpower, General ‘Billy’ Mitchell, the B-25 is best known for the April 18, 1942 bombing of Tokyo,” the announcement said. “Led by Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, and flown from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, 16 B-25s successfully completed the first strike on Japanese soil during World War II.”

Pre-ordered tickets are $10 and are $15 at the gate. Children younger than 12 years old will be admitted at no charge. Beach parking costs $15, but a free shuttle will be available; visit the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce website for more information.

The show also raises money for The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation…”
