January’s foreclosure market report was released last week by RealtyTrac.
Although the analysis shows that foreclosure filings increased by 1% from the previous month, but decreased by 17% from January 2010. A total of 75,198 U.S. properties received default notices in January–which is the lowest monthly total for default notices since July 2007.
261,333 U.S. properties were in some stage of foreclosure in January 2011; or about one in every 497 housing units.
Foreclosure filings include default notices, scheduled auctions, and bank repossessions.
