Living in Newport Beach: Lido Isle

Newport Harbor and Lido Isle

Newport Harbor | Newport Beach, CA

For this Friday’s “Living in Newport Beach” photo, I decided to feature a view of the Newport Harbor.

It’s obvious by the yachts docked around the perimeter of the harbor and the sailboats being used in the bay, that boating is a main attraction here in Newport Beach. As the home port of more than 10,000 recreational vessels, Newport Harbor is among the largest yacht harbors in the United States.

The bridge in the picture leads to Lido Isle, a man-made island (dredged and filled in 1896 by James McFadden, and completed in 1930) in the harbor of Newport Beach, Lido Isle boasts a bay-front view for nearly a third of the 850 homes built on the island. Lido Isle is near the beach, but a world apart. The island’s exclusive amenities include a yacht club, beaches, tennis courts, gardens and a private clubhouse overlooking the harbor.

The City of Newport Beach has published the Complete Cruising Guide to Newport Harbor; to take a look at it, click here.
