China Cove and its secluded beach, in Newport Beach’s neighborhood of Corona del Mar, is located at the entrance of the Newport Harbor. Nearby was the China House, a home built in 1927 with Chinese architectural accents. The home was a landmark for those entering the Newport Harbor, with it’s bright pink exterior, elaborate scrolling and curved Chinese architecture. In the 1980’s the home was demolished. However, the roof of the China House was saved and has been incorporated into the design of two other homes in the China Cove area (BeachCalifornia.com). The house is commemorated by a plaque near the roof stating: “This is the original roof of the China House restored in memory of Barbara “B” Renard, 1914-1996. She was China Cove.”
The China Cove Beach is accessible by using the steps on Ocean Boulevard at Fernleaf St. Free parking is available on the street above. The beach is open to the public between 6am and 10pm.
